Journal Entry #8 “The Odyssey”

Reading Greek mythology has always been a  great interest of my. They all have similar structure following a hero on their journey and deconstructing a hero’s traits, personality, and actions can provide much benefits to readers. We are introduced to Telemachus in the very beginning of the story and as the son of Odyssey we can see traits of a caring son, when he stands in between the suitors of his mother in his father stead. He lacks courage wishing for his father return “First by far to see her was Prince Telemachus, sitting among the suitors, heart obsessed with grief. He could almost see his magnificent father, here … in the mind’s eye—if only he might drop from the clouds and drive these suitors all in a rout throughout the halls and regain his pride of place and rule his own domains!”  As readers, we can tell that he has much to learn, needing aid from the goddess Athena. He matures as the story continues not allowing others to take advantage of his weakness of inexperience when addressing the suitors, telling them off.
