JOURNAL ENTRY #2 “The Hymn of Man”

Even though I am a man of science, this was an interesting take on the theory on the conception of the world. It is a difficult text to understand but through the helpful notes, I was able to visualize this tragic tale of Purusa. Purusa would become a sacrifice to divinity, something above the gods themselves. His body will be broken apart and those parts will evolve into our world. For example, in verse 8-14 much of it describes of the creation of animals, verse, chants, people, sky, moon, sun and even gods through various parts of his body. Something to get out of this reading would be the theme of sacrifice and the creation of a social class system. Unlike the Creation of Hymn, this offers very little science concepts to modern day.
