JOURNAL ENTRY #11 “OEDIPUS”

“Oedipus” was an interesting read and I have found great correlation between this book and “The Odyssey”. I felt the themes of Fate vs. Free Will has been prevalent throughout the tales. Without go to deep into summarization here was a interesting list I have came up with:

  • Choice in progressing their journey
  • Choice in their actions when coming to a difficult realization

But there will be a strange disconnect from both works as we found out that Sophocles was trialed as a sophist. This was a great discussion topic held in class and I found it extremely fun engaging with my classmates and finding great evidence when defending Jocasta. One of the more strong suited evidence our group used was that she offered herself to the gods and prayed for her well-being, and ultimately we won the case.
